Bamboo is an amazing plant (grass, actually) that can sequester almost twice the amount of carbon that a tree can and produces 35% more oxygen. It is the world’s fastest growing plant (some types growing 3 feet PER DAY) and matures in 1 to 5 years (compared to 30 to 40 years for trees). It regrows from a widespread root system, so it does not require replanting or cultivation. It develops well naturally, without any fertilizers or pesticides, and requires relatively little water for growth.
Bamboo has a higher tensile strength than steel! Its durability makes it great for all sorts of uses, including road construction, building materials, furniture, and kitchenware.
Bamboo grows in tropical and subtropical regions, with most of the commercial bamboo being harvested from Asia. Thus, one drawback with bamboo is the carbon footprint created by transporting this marvelous material around the world.
Best Bamboo PAPER Towels
There are numerous bamboo paper towel products on the market, but the brands below stand out for their consumer ratings and for the eco-conscious companies behind them. The prices vary between 35 and 65 cents per sheet. All of these, except one, are washable and reusable many times!
Grow Your Pantry sells reusable bamboo sheets for 35 cents each. They are machine washable, but hang to dry, and can be used 50 to 60 times before disposal. They come with two cotton sacks included, so you can keep your clean and dirty towels separate.

Urban Green’s reusable bamboo sheets come in “heavy duty” or “ultra soft” options. They can be laundered in the clothes washer and hung to dry up to 80 times before being composted. The 100% organic bamboo is certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).

Enviro Safe Home is a woman-owned business that offers bamboo sheets for 50 cents per sheet. Each sheet can be rewashed up to 85 times. The twin packs include a plain towel for all-around cleaning and a dotted towel for tougher messes (nice for mopping pads too). They also have a more basic towel for 25 cents per sheet.

Bambooee paper towels are made from organic bamboo and cost around 65 cents per sheet. You can rewash and reuse them about 100 times. They are not compostable, but the company is currently developing a new product that is. The company plants a tree for every roll that is purchased.

Caboo products are a little different. Their paper towels are created with a blend of bamboo fiber and sugarcane pulp. The sugarcane pulp (bagasse) is repurposed from the leftovers of the sugar extraction process. The addition of sugarcane fiber reduces the price of Caboo sheets down to 5 cents per sheet, but it also makes them a single-use item like recycled paper towels. Thankfully, they are fully compostable. They are also accredited by several organizations, including BRC Global Standards, the NonGMO Project, MadeSafe.org, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Best Bamboo CLOTH Towels
A little more long-lasting than bamboo paper is bamboo cloth. These types of paper towel replacements run around 2 to 3 dollars each and tend to be softer and more absorbent.
ECO BEING sells a 10 pack of bamboo cloths in a recyclable paperboard box. Their white diamond-weave towels are stitched with a double layer of fabric. They are machine washable or can be washed by hand.

Enviro Safe Home has an option in this category as well. Their 8-pack of bamboo cloths includes 2 different sizes (2 large and 6 small), and they come in 4 different colors (white, pink, blue, and green). They can be machine washed and dried. The packaging is a reusable mesh bag made of 100% cotton.

NetZeroCompany markets a modified version of a bamboo cloth. Their product is dual-sided, with one side being 100% organic cotton and the other being bamboo terry cloth. Also, their towels include fun printed patterns.

Whichever type of reusable bamboo towels you use, whether bamboo paper or bamboo cloth, be sure to read the care instructions. Some brands recommend handwashing and line drying only, and some allow you to machine wash and dry the cloths. Some cloths also work better after they have been washed at least once and get more absorbent after each use. Take note that the rolls of bamboo towels only last once, so be prepared to store your rewashed cloths in a drawer or dispenser for easy access on the next use.
Bamboo towels can replace paper towels for almost all the same tasks AND are reusable! The bamboo paper towels are more disposable than the bamboo cloth, but almost all types are compostable.
